Officials´ Turnover confirm rumors

Dr. Alfredo Martiz was appointed yesterday by President Juan Carlos Varela as the new director of the Social Insurance Fund (CSS) for the remainder of the ongoing five-year period, while Carlos Duboy, whose name had also been rumored for a CSS position, joined the management of the Tocumen International Airport.

Alfredo Martiz is currently Ambassador of Panama in Taiwan, a charge from which he must resign in order to then be ratified by the National Assembly during the current period, which closes on April 30.

The announced movements also included the Secretary of Goals, Carlos Duboy, who will take on the management of the Tocumen Airport replacing Joseph Fidanque III, who will be fully resuming his private-sector activities.

On the other hand, the until now Deputy Minister of Housing, Jorge González, was appointed to the Secretary of Goals, a body attached to the Presidency of the Republic which relates to the monitoring and enforcement of the major works of the Panamanian Government.

It has yet not been announced who will be the new deputy Minister of Housing.

While President Varela is engaged in top-functionary movements, there are some who are demanding real changes to be made in the Cabinet.

Jorge Gamboa Arosemena, panameñista party member, warned that the executions of the Cabinet have been very poor in general terms, so not making deeper changes will unquestionably mean that what the Varela administration intends to continue with his government of "mediocrity", while the people are suffering.

"Varela has no vision of service, but is only focused on keeping his close zero circle intact do that they can continue to enjoy the power", said Gamboa.
