Some 600 African immigrants remain in idleness in the midst of two contingents of police, both Costa Rica and Panama, in the border sector, where health and hunger issues are worsening.

Attentions for part of Costa Rica Red Cross are being frequently given, mainly to children, as a result of the high temperatures that occur on the border of these two nations, along with the lack of electric power.

According to the first reports, more than 30 children in the area and about 20 pregnant women have been accounted for.

Some people, taking into account the desperation that these Africans face, live close to the place and give them water, since these people do not own a hostel and from this Friday morning, when they were returned to the border between Costa Rica and Panama, these people have spent days and nights in the middle of the road with two police contingents as their only follower.

Wilson Cámara, an immigrant from Congo, pointed out that the situation has become despairing, because they do not have a shelter where they can spend the night. "Just a lot of policemen, whom we ask not to mistreat us, since we do not want to stay in any of the two countries and have not come to harm anyone", he commented.

According to Cámara, if they left their land was due to war and hunger, looking to improve their condition. He said that the children are getting sick and have had to spend the night in the middle of the street, which is why they are asking to please let them continue.

Some Africans say they left four months ago going through different borders on buses; the little they brought was some cash which was stolen so they only ask to be allowed to fulfill their dream of reaching the United States seeking to improve their life condition.

The area of Costa Rica Police Commissioner Nils Ching explained that the sum of immigrants amounts to about 600, since many were kept in adjacent areas within the Republic of Costa Rica, and all have been huddled in the border zone, where they have not been permitted entry, since they are illegal.

"Those immigrants will not be allowed entry, since they are irregular people who do not carry proper documentation, so measures have been taken so that this legal provision will prevail in our territory," said the head of the police area on the Costa Rica border.

As to Panama, a contingent of riot police units remain stationed at the offices of migration, so as to not allow the entrance of Africans.

In the place it can be observed how these immigrants from countries such as Somalia, Nigeria, Congo, Nepal, are using some sidewalks outside shops to shelter under away from the sun exposure.
