Society demands dismissal of Aguilera and Donadio

The struggle between the Minister and the Deputy Minister of security does damage to the country and benefits crime and insecurity, which is why both officials should be removed from their posts, thus considered politicians and leaders of civil society.

One who referred to the fight between the head of security, Rodolfo Aguilera, and the second-in-command, Rogelio Donadío, was former President Ricardo Martinelli who posted on his Twitter  account: "the fight between Minister of Security and his Deputy does damage to the country and  benefit crime." "Either one or the other, or both, must go very soon".

This stance was supported by the trade union leader, Saúl Méndez, who described as "shameful"  the bickering brought to the media by Aguilera and Donadio, although he assured that the  underperformance of both is most alarming.

"Those fights are reason enough for their dismissal, but in addition, Varela should remove them  due to their marked inefficiency in the management of the country's security," said Mendez.

According to the trade unionist, the feelings of the people is that insecurity is acute, with a worrying increase in the crime rates.

"No personal issues that Aguilera and Donadio may have is of concern to the common Panamanian "what they want is for them to work to improve their security, and they are not doing that", he argued.

This statement is shared by Enrique Montenegro of the anti-corruption front.

"We should not be paying close attention to these officials´ personal differences, because the core  problem in the Minseg is something more serious," said Montenegro.

"What really matters is that none of the two is doing his job," he said.

And supported his argument by stating that "figures reveal the harsh reality facing the Panamanian" in terms of the increase in crime, the advancement of drug trafficking, theft, etc.

"That is why we insist on that this scenario forces the resignation of Aguilera and Donadio, because security strategy and the fight against crime won't be to rethink the," said the director of the anti-corruption front of Panama.

Meanwhile the Secretary of communication of the Cambio Democrático party, Luis Eduardo Camacho, added to the bad image of the current Government should encourage their senior officials to set aside their personal hatred and engage in work better.

But on the crisis of the Minseg, Camacho chose not to delve into changes of figures, and considered that what the country really needs is "a change in the style of Government".

He explained that the arguments between Aguilera and. Donadio are not new, "but the fact that it has been made public only confirms that President Varela is not taking care of his team," he said.

However, constitutionalist Miguel Antonio Bernal takes as a fact Rodolfo Aguilera´s and Rogelio Donadío´s dismissal from Minseg, but anticipates that this action will cause a worse problem.

"The President has long been planning on getting rid of the Minister of Security and appointing a military," warned Bernal.
