The President of the Republic, Juan Carlos Varela Rodríguez, showed his discomfort and annoyance once again due to questions posed by journalists.
Last Sunday, during the Eucharistic mass celebration, the President was questioned by TVN journalist Icard Reyes, who asked him whether or not he had received donations from the company Odebrecht for his election campaign.
The President, visibly uncomfortable, replied: "the Public Ministry (MP) is who has to investigate everything. I already gave my position as to the presidential campaign. It all was made publicly known".
Reyes said that the tension between him and the President continued off camera.
In his Twitter account, the TV anchor said that the President said to him: "definitely that you must return to the radio", after showing his discomfort by the questions of the journalist; to what Reyes added: "If you thought that with that phrase you´re denigrating me as a professional man, I just want you to know that it´s been all the way around".
This would not be the first time that Varela shows this type of attitude when he is questioned by the press, since in 2014, as a presidential candidate, he rebuked journalist of Radio Nacional, Ricardo Peñalba, as the latter asked him about the results of presidential polls for the elections of that year.
"I have not seen them", said Varela, when journalist asked about these electoral measurements as the President was leaving the Youth Forum of Students of the Universidad Santa María la Antigua.
Then Varela asked journalist Peñalba in a strong tone that he could not ask him political issues as he was a public employee.
"Do you work with whom? with National Radio?, are you a public servant?", Varela asked journalist Peñalba, who confirmed him to work for the State National Radio.
After that, the President warned Peñalba: "then you cannot ask this question. You need to be neutral in your questions. You can't do it, am I being clear? You're a public employee."
