Government lacks a clear objective

The sore lack of execution in the administration of President Juan Carlos Varela highlights how the  government lacks clear plan and the right people to see you through. This is the conclusion that many productive sectors of the economy have arrived to. All laments the government’s unwillingness  to take decisions and execute them.

According to former president of the chamber of commerce and agriculture, Jose Luis Ford, “ministers have an adequate budget but everybody seems afraid to make any decision, so nothing gets done”. In many cases, the private sector has had to step in to fill the vacuum left by the public institution. Former Panamanian president Ernesto Perez Balladares accused the government of having no plan and moving at snail pace. He also believes that many ministries are paralyzed by fear of judicial persecution of the sort that has been dished out two previous administration officials.

For her part, former first lady Marta de Martinelli highlighted how “it is unfortunate to see public projects launched by the Martinelli administration abandoned and left to rot”. “Those projects were for the benefit of ordinary Panamanians”, she added.

The latest international scandals concerning tax evasion and money laundering have only exacerbated an already desperate situation.
